Enhanced First Responder Skills
Designed specifically for firefighters with a current Standard First Aid certification, this advanced skills course bridges the gap between basic first aid and higher-level emergency response. Ideal for departments who have prolonged scene times before EMS arrival. Crews will build confidence and competence in performing enhanced patient assessments and practical interventions commonly encountered in fire and rescue environments.
This hands-on course focuses on real-world emergency care skills including enhanced vital signs assessments (blood pressure, pulse oximetry, blood glucose monitoring), airway and breathing management (including OPAs, BVMs, and oxygen administration), wound packing and bleeding control with hemostatic agents, spinal motion restriction and spine boarding techniques, medication assists, and patient packaging considerations.
Emphasis is placed on scene safety, teamwork, communication, and decision-making under pressure.
